Verify a Receipt
What verifying an ECZ-ID Receipt means, what a valid result does and does not tell you, and what to read today while public receipt retrieval is not enabled.
Core records receipts today, but public retrieval and public verification are not enabled, and Receipts plans are not yet on sale in TrustOps. This guide describes the verification model so that systems can be designed for it; it contains no command that retrieves a receipt.

What verification checks
- The receipt is well-formed
ecz.receipt.v1with an identifier of the formRCP-YYYYMM-followed by 26 Crockford base32 characters. - Its
receipt_hashequals SHA-256 over the canonical JSON of every field exceptreceipt_hashandsignature, using the canonicalisation the receipt names inverification. - ECZ-ID Core confirms it issued a receipt with that identifier and hash.
- If the receipt carries a LedgerCore reference, the anchor is read back before anything is reported as anchored.
Valid is never current
A verification report says whether the artifact is valid, invalid or not confirmed, and whether Core issued it. It always reports current state as not evaluated. A valid receipt proves what was recorded at the time; it says nothing about what is true now. For that, re-resolve the subject.
What to read today
The public record reports receipt state for every subject. Use the fields the record lists for machines: evidence.public_receipt_state, evidence.public_receipt_retrievable and ledger.public_receipt_state. Recorded is not published, and published is not current.
